Study Abroad
Notre Dame International
Study Abroad can greatly enhance the academic experiences of Sustainability Minors, exposing them to approaches to sustainability that are not available within the United States. Notre Dame International has expanded the Global Network of partner Universities and programs that enrich the scholarship of students in the minor, including innovative approaches to global climate concerns. There are 48 programs across 26 countries offering Notre Dame students the opportunity to travel, learn, and develop into global citizens. Students interested in studying sustainability abroad have many options within Notre Dame's established study abroad programs. Sustainability minors may count up to 6 credits from studying abroad toward Sustainability Minor electives.
The courses listed below have been taught in previous semesters and are pre-approved for Sustainability Minor credit. Please check the current catalogs to see if they will be taught again while you are abroad. Sustainability
"My semester in Santiago was an invaluable experience that broadened my understanding of the global nature of sustainability challenges. I enrolled in the course “Restauración Ecológica” (Restoration Ecology) employed service learning methodology by partnering with the municipality of Renca in Santiago. This service-based structure allowed me to gain an understanding (scientific, logistical, technical, and social) of ecological restoration and implement that knowledge via the development of a restoration proposal that we presented to the municipality at the end of the semester; the municipality will now use our proposals to guide their restoration efforts in the coming years. I was able to learn about the ecological challenges of another country, and actively participate in the effort to address such challenges. This experience pushed me to think critically about our complex problems and potential solutions to the world’s sustainability issues. It has been among the most formative and rewarding aspects of my studies in sustainability."
