Sustainability Summit 2020

(part of a series)

Location: Rieth Village, Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center

2019sustainabilitysummitmerrylea

The 6th annual gathering of students from Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania (and sometimes beyond!) at the Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College! Attendees either are or aim to be sustainability leaders on their campus, and often are coming from a Christian faith perspective, seeking to connect faith motivation to sustainable action. This is a terrific opportunity to network with peers, enjoy a retreat from campus, and gain some new knowledge and skills to aid in your sustainability efforts.

Our theme this year is...EDUCATION! How do we stay up to date on sustainability issues and solutions? How do we educate others on these pressing topics? Is education just for teachers? (spoiler alert: nope) We will explore these and other questions as we interact with each other and experts in the field.

This year's keynote speaker will be Karl Duchmann Jr. of the Hoosier Environmental Council. He will participate in the whole weekend, and then close the event with wisdom about educating diverse audiences and building coalitions.

Attending the 2020 Summit provides an opportunity to:

  • Connect your faith with sustainability issues
  • Become a better learner and boost your sustainability literacy
  • Hike a 1200-acre nature sanctuary
  • Stay in LEED Platinum buildings
  • Network with peers from other colleges
  • Participate in skill-building workshops
  • Share your unique area of expertise
  • Interact with experts in the field

The Cost for the event is $50 if you register before Jan. 17th! Registration is $60 after Jan. 17th. This covers housing, meals, and activities. Please Contact Alexander Hajek about financial aid! Cost should not be an obstacle if you want to attend!
