Riverside Sustainability Festival brings regional sustainability programs together

Author: Carly Hubers

Notre Dame sustainability students and staff teamed up with students from several area schools to welcome Goshen College's "Sustainability Semester" students as they stopped by Indiana University South Bend's campus on their weeklong canoe exploration of the St. Joe River.  The event was a great way for students to connect and socialize with other sustainability students from several area colleges.

Students from IUSB, Goshen College, Saint Mary's College, and AMBS spent the evening enjoying dinner together (a fun "french fry bar", along with lots of locally sourced fruits, veggies, and other treats) and sharing ideas about sustainability on their campuses.  Students spent time in small groups discussing various aspects of sustainability programming on their own campuses, as well as their hopes and goals for their own and other college campuses in the future.  The groups took the time to answer questions like:

  • "What are the best examples of sustainable practices you see in your daily life?"
  • "What ideas can help support green initiatives on campus?"
  • "What green/sustainable changes or initiatives are most important to YOU to see happen on campus? How can you help make that happen?"

The office for the Minor in Sustainability hopes to see more events like this one happen throughout the year.  Stay connected on our website or email sus@nd.edu to get more information about how to get involved!
