Molecular Epidemiology of Malaria

-

Location: Zoom

Christian Koepfli

Cristian Koepfli, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences, will speak about his research on the molecular epidemiology of Malaria.

The Koepfli lab uses molecular tools to diagnose, quantify and genotype malaria parasites and their transmission stages. They apply them to large population-based surveys to understand the factors affecting the asymptomatic reservoir, how it contributes to transmission, establish transmission networks, how mutations affect drug and diagnostic resistance, and other questions. In close collaboration with institutions in malaria-endemic countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, the Koepfli Lab aims to contribute to new strategies for the control of malaria.
