Professors Kate Marshall (English), Julia Thomas (History), Laura Walls (English), and John Sitter (English) invite faculty and graduate students to consider joining two discussions of a recent edited collection, Teaching Climate Change in the Humanities (Routledge, 2016).
The book consists of an introduction by the editors (Stephen Siperstein, Shane Hall, and Stephanie LeMenager) and 34 essays, averaging about 8 pages, from various disciplinary perspectives. We will read approximately the second half of the book for this meeting, having read the first half in February.
Our aim is to bring together faculty and graduate students interested enough in the topic to contemplate teaching a humanities course either largely or secondarily about climate and some of its implications for cultural, aesthetic, and ethical discourses. The imagined course does not have to yet exist or be a certainty, but it should be a possibility.
